A Champion for Northern Businesses!

My display at the Pop Up Of The North last year

I wanted to write about something a bit different today. It's easy to get absorbed in the collections, and sometimes forget that it's the network of supporters, suppliers and the great British public that make producing my range possible in the first place!

I want to talk about Georgie Pridden of Pridden PR and Events and everything she does to champion British brands. Georgie' most recent focus has been on designers and companies based outside of London, like me. Sometimes it feels as though what is happening the regions takes a backseat to the constant excitement of our nation's capital, and we forget that there truly is creativity everywhere.

Georgie's project 'The Pop Up Of The North' has already been held twice in Malton. The biannual pop-up gathers together a highly curated selection of businesses under one roof, offering residents of North Yorkshire the opportunity to shop in a stunning settling (Malton House) and discover the independents they wouldn't necessarily gain access to.

Last time, I shared my room with Trendlistr who offered a range of vintage jewellery and accessories. Next door we had Studio To Home offering fun graphic linocuts and the Lost Tea company downstairs converting us all to their fermented tea snack mix (yes, really!)

She has also added an interactive element - offering workshops and talks by charities, textile artists and florists alike. I love that there is an experiential element, it only adds to a shopping experience that you could never recreate on the high street. It feels like more of a community as a result - it's not just about the sell, sell, sell, but caters to people who are invested in learning about the backstories of brands and the crafts they have so carefully honed.

Not only that, but proceeds from the sale go towards the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, an invaluable service that covers 4 million acres and serves a population of 4 million people.

I am getting into the spirit of 'pop ups' by hosting my own virtual sale of sample cushions which you can find here. I am still posting out orders and taking the utmost care with everything to ensure you can shop with peace of mind.

Unfortunately, the most recent event was cancelled and postponed to the Autumn, but Georgie continues to be active on social media and profile the brands she has chosen to support and showcase. You can follow her on Instagram here, and join the Pop Up Of The North mailing list here to be notified of future events.
