Large paintings | Abstract Paintings by Susi Bellamy
Inspired by my time living and working in Florence I created these paintings in response to the crumbling plaster walls of the palazzos, the landscape and the exotic colours both in Renaissance art and Italian fashion. The addition of metallic leaf is inspired by the use of gilding used by the Florentines when creating their ornate frames and in their religious paintings. Using a plasterers trowel the paint is scraped on then pulled off revealing colour beneath colour. These strata of surfaces give depth to the artwork and reflect the layers of place and time that inform my practice.
