The Journey of Our Designs: From Paper to Fabric
Every fabric in our collection begins not on a computer screen, but by hand. At the heart of each design is an original marbled paper, individually created by Susi using traditional marbling techniques. These one-of-a-kind artworks form the foundation of our collections...
The Art of Marbling
Marbling is a centuries-old craft that involves floating paints on a prepared surface of water before carefully transferring the pattern onto paper. The process is beautifully unpredictable. Colours swirl, blend and move organically, creating intricate patterns that are almost impossible to reproduce exactly
For Susi, marbling is both an art form and a source of endless inspiration. Each sheet of paper is created by hand, with every movement influencing the final design. No two pieces are ever the same
Discovering Patterns Within the Artwork
Once the marbled papers are complete, the next stage is to explore the artwork in detail. A single sheet may contain countless fascinating sections, each with its own character, movement, and colour combinations. This is when we 'crop' into an area that we think will make the best pattern, sometimes it is a dramatic swirl of colour; other times, a subtle texture or delicate pattern that captures the imagination
Preserving the Handmade Character
One of the most important aspects of our design process is maintaining the integrity of the original marbled paper. We strive to retain the movement, depth, and spontaneity that make hand marbling so distinctive. Rather than creating patterns from scratch digitally, we celebrate the natural variations and artistic marks that give each design its unique personality
From Artwork to Fabric
Once the design has been scanned, work begins on changing colours and editing any blips there might be. Then it is printed onto our fabrics, velvet and linen. Seeing a hand-marbled paper transformed into a tactile textile is always a special moment, we love receiving sampling, it never gets boring!
Bringing Art into the Home
What makes our fabrics unique is their origin. Every design can be traced back to an original piece of hand-crafted artwork, created by Susi
When you choose one of our fabrics, you are not simply selecting a pattern - you are bringing a piece of original artistry into your home. The fabric becomes a continuation of the creative journey, connecting traditional craftsmanship with contemporary interior design
A Celebration of Craftsmanship
From hand-marbled paper to finished fabric, every stage of the process is rooted in creativity, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. It is a journey that honours the beauty of traditional techniques while transforming them into fabrics designed for modern living.
Each collection begins with paint on water, a blank sheet of paper, and Susi's vision. The result is fabric with a story woven into every thread...
